Those Who Speak for Themselves

The Archa Theatre is a centre for contemporary stage art without regard to barriers of genre. Since its foundation in 1994, Archa has established a solid reputation on the domestic and international progressive scenes with its unique dramaturgy and innovative projects. It operates as a production house that provides space to artists for their creative work. Over the past 25 years Archa has welcomed “on board” renowned figures of world art like Robert Wilson,  Min Tanaka, Wim Vandekeybus, Anna Teresa de Keersmaeker,  Royal Shakespeare Company, Cheek By Jowl, Ultima Vez, DV8 - Physical Theatre, Dogtroep, Forced Entertainment, Lola Arias, Rimini Protokoll, Pieter De Buysser, Milo Rau, Wen Hui and many others. Projects by young artists are conceived and developed under the auspices of the Archa.lab and its residencies. The theatre's International Summer School serves as a platform for experimentation and research in the field of documentary theatre. One of Archa's flagship events each season is the Akcent International Festival of Documentary Theatre.

Archa Theatre Decalogue

1. Archa is a centre for contemporary stage art, without regard to barriers of genre.

3. Archa does not have a stable ensemble / its own performances are created as projects.
4. Archa is a place for international confrontation of stage art.
5. Archa is a place where different cultures meet.
6. Archa presents its own performances not only in the spaces of the theatre, but also elsewhere, for example in public spaces.
7. Archa places equal emphasis on the theatrical and social functions of the theatre.
8. Archa creates projects both independently and in collaboration with like-minded organisations in Czech Republic and abroad.
9. Archa serves a public which is critical and discerning.
10. Archa is a public forum.

Archa Theatre is member of IETM - International network for contemporary performing arts and the Czech Association of Independent theatre.
